Jimmy Burrill was born in 1939 in the Scotch Hill neighborhood of Westbrook.  He lived his entire life in the city of Westbrook attending local schools and participating in many activities and organizations.  He was a proud graduate of Westbrook High School's, Class of 1957, and even prouder to call Westbrook his home.  Mr. Burrill was well known for his devotion to the local sports scene.  

His love of sports began as a boy playing Little League in Westbrook. Burrill was a member of the 1951 Suburban Little League team that was the first team from Maine to play in the Little League World Series. In addition to the 1951 Little League state championship, Jim was also a member of two Telegram League championship teams in 1955 and 1957. He threw a no hitter in high school and 16 strikeouts in his last high school game. Following his playing career Jim embarked on his coaching career. He coached four seasons in the Babe Ruth League. He then coached the Stephen W. Manchester Post American Legion team for 21 years. The highlight of his coaching career was winning the state Legion title in 1981 and falling just shy of qualifying for the American Legion World Series. Jim's coaching career never really ended. He could be seen at baseball games of all levels offering advice to anyone interested in improving their game. Many people have said they have learned more about baseball from watching a game with Jim than anywhere else. ​

In recognition of his dedication and commitment to baseball, he was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
